Please give us a short summary of your website?
My website contains various samples of my photography portfolio (babies, nature, etc.), a general listing of prices, as well as a brief bit of information about me and various works of mine that can be bought.
What inspired you to launch your own website?
As a stay-at-home mom, I've been getting lots of opportunities to practice my passion for photography with my ever-so-willing little model (;-D). I'd been getting lots of compliments on my work and people had started asking me to do shoots for them. I decided that it would be nice to be able to take my passion to the next level with a photography business, as well as getting to earn a little extra income. As well, I know that when my husband and I were looking for photographers, we found them to be quite expensive, so I was hoping to offer a cheaper alternative.
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
This is my first website, launched as of June 2009.
How did you decide on a name for your website?
As with many photographers, I figured it was just easiest to use my own name.
What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?
I'm hoping the fact that I offer lower prices and include a CD/DVD with all my shoots will be a huge bonus to potential clients. I know a lot of photographers out there charge for every single picture you want. I just think that when you're already dealing with the costs of a baby, wedding, whatever, that you don't need yet more costs for such special memories.
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
To have a solid photography business. I would love to do more than just babies, and look forward to getting to shoot some weddings, engagement photos, newborn shots, and possibly maternity photos in the years to come. Friends have already booked me for those before I even started the business!
What has been your biggest challenge?
I guess the biggest challenge for any new business is establishing a clientele base. It's been hard making sure that my website gets seen and getting the word out that I'm available.
