Faust Photography Interview

By Interviewer at 01/15/08 16:12

Name of your website?

Faust Photography

Your name?

Terry Faust

Your Location (city, etc)

Minneapolis

Please give us a short summary of your website?

Faust Photography serves as a portfolio site for the five areas of Terry Faust's photography experience: Editorial, Photo Illustrations, Special Events, Ceremonies and Architecture.

What inspired you to launch your own website?

It saves time to have an online portfolio. Clients can view my work at their leisure.

When did you launch your first website, and what was it?

1994

How did you decide on a name for your website?

It is the name of my company.

What makes it different from other, similar offerings?

I have a proven track record of high quality performance and offer references and free estimates.

What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)

I hope to field more photography exhibits of my personal work.

How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?

There's no question that since I went freelance in 1991, businesses have been steadily tightening their belts when it comes to their photography budgets. I've managed to keep nose above water but I wouldn't suggest that anyone jump into the field at this particular time unless they have a day job, spouse with a high-paying job or they are independently wealthy. The cost of digital cameras, lenses, lighting, studio space and post production equipment has increased while client budgets have decreased. Success for me and many in the field is just staying alive.

If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?

If I had an unlimited development budget I would chuck my web site, put the money in my IRA and retire.

If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?

Yes.

What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?

Very few. Forwarding from the register holder to my ISP was a little tricky but is now fine.

What has been your biggest challenge?

Surviving this economy.

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

Postcards.

How has running your website differed from your expectations?

No difference.

How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?

Since 1994. I'll run it until I retire.

What is your website address?

Faust Photography
