What inspired you to launch your own website?
Desire to share our portfolio and give more useful information to brides, grooms, their families, and wedding professionals.
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
In 2004. It was www.gauerphotography.com
How did you decide on a name for your website?
It is the name of our business which includes our last name and our field of expertise.
What makes it different from other, similar offerings?
The website contains clean, clutter free and pop-up free portfolio of our work. Unlike other photographers' websites, ours is a valuable resource for the engaged couples on how to prepare for their wedding from the photography perspective. It describes what to expect from the engagement session, and answers many wedding photography-related questions. The clients page will have a link to a shopping site that will facilitate ordering of prints, DVD's, albums, and other photography products. The journal page allows any visitors to post comments freely.
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
Keep it for continuous display of our photography work, adding more useful information for our existing and potential clients, serve as a communication tool.
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
Exponentially. The more time, effort and money we invest in our business the more success our business brings to us.
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
We are purchasing software to create flash galleries enhanced with music and enriched with slide shows. We would spend more money on hiring models to add glamor wedding-dress model photography galleries on our site.
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
Yes, we have developed a very efficiently streamlined production in our studio. We also have a wide network of colleagues that we can hire for help.
What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
Nothing unexpected.
What has been your biggest challenge?
As far as the website is concerned, one of us had to learn html language from zero and design the website from scratch. It was challenging, but is paying off now.
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
Listings, search engine optimization, mass e-mailing. Now our new journal brings in hight statistics.
How has running your website differed from your expectations?
At the beginning, it took much more time than we expected. Now it is more streamlined.
How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?
Since about 2004 and will continue until retirement, which will not be soon - in a couple of decades or longer.
